A north-east firefighter is urging others to fellow in her footsteps and join the service.
Nicolle Beattie signed up seven years ago and combines full-time role in Aberdeen and at her retained post in Buckie.
The 33-year-old has also travelled nearly 2,500 miles to deliver life-saving equipment to her fellow crews in Moldova.
Ms Beattie’s call to become part of the emergency service is part of a nationwide recruitment drive by the fire service.
They need 300 new crew to bolster their ranks and want more women to think about a career with them.
Ms Beattie became a firefighter in 2012 and is the first-ever retained female crew member to work at Buckie.
She said: “When I joined Buckie I was the first female to work at the station and I’ve been treated as part of the team since day one.
“I just wanted to get stuck in. There was no way I was going to be the weakest link.
“People may think this is a male-orientated environment, but each individual within the service has their own strengths. We need the best people attending incidents.”
Ms Beattie hopes her own daughter follows the same path as her by signing up to the fire service.
She said 15-year-old Kayla is considering it an option for her career.
Ms Beattie said: “Kayla has told me she wants to be a firefighter, but she’s still at school doing her exams just now.
“She has grown up and has seen the work I do, so it must have rubbed off.
“My message to anyone thinking about applying to become a firefighter would be go for it. Believe in yourself – you can do it.”
