Women at a lunch group who were treated to songs from a West End star have raised £8,000 for Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland.
Peterhead-based fundraising organisation Shimmer and Sparkle has supported SBH Scotland ever since one of the founding committee members Vicki Forman gave birth to her son Dylan who has the condition.
Guests at the event, held by the group in the Palace Hotel were wowed by an impromptu performance from Suzie Mathers, known for playing Glinda in Wicked.
Her spontaneous renditions of What a Wonderful World, Somewhere over the Rainbow and Leaving on a Jet Plane helped them raise more than £8,000 for the charity.
Along with Ms Mathers, Fraserburgh Pipe Band and dance troup Dansation entertained the crowds before games, raffles and an auction were held to increase the donations.
SBH Scotland puts the money towards specialist services for those affected by the life-long conditions of spina bifida and hydrocephalus.
Across Aberdeenshire, more than 250 people rely on SBH Scotland’s services, which include weekly visits by dedicated support workers.
Deborah Roe, fundraising director at SBH Scotland said: “Shimmer and Sparkle has been fundraising for SBH Scotland for over 12 years.
“Without their support, we wouldn’t have been able to provide dedicated services to those who need our help the most.
“We’d like to thank everyone who attended and helped make the event a success.”
Member of the Shimmer and Sparkle committee, Denise Keith, said everyone had a brilliant time raising money together.
She added: “It’s a lot of work for us to organise behind the scenes and setting up the hall ourselves the day before the lunch, so it’s all hands on deck and takes most of the day.
“The highlights of the day was seeing everyone having a great time and the dance floor was never empty once the disco had started.
“We were delighted to have Suzie Mathers perform for us – she is just amazing.
“Our host Jimmy Buchan was brilliant, he kept us all entertained and ensured the day went smoothly.
“I have worked with Jimmy for about 25 years and managed to persuade him to host it for us.
“It’s an absolute pleasure raising this money for a fantastic charity – they do a great job and so many peoples lives benefit from them.
“We will continue to do all we can as long as demand for the ladies lunch continues.”
