People in the Granite City are being encouraged to stand in upcoming community council elections in Northfield.
The councils meet every month to discuss concerns about the local area. They also encourage public involvement in the community and elected officials must represent the views of the locals. Elections take place every three years.
The councils also act as statutory consultees for all planning and liquor licensing applications.
Candidates must be at least 16 years old and be on the current electoral register for the community council area where they reside.
There are 16 vacancies for Northfield Community Council and eight for City Centre Community Council. Nominations close on April 25, with polls opening on May 23.
An Aberdeen City Council spokesperson said, “Anyone who is considering standing for election should have a keen interest in their local community and be public spirited.
“Community councils act as a voice for their local area and articulate the views of local people on issues of public concern to the local authority, other public sector bodies and private organisations.”
