Hundreds of people are expected to turn out to cheer on elite cyclists as they race through the city next month, taking on a refreshed route.
Organisers of the OVO Energy Tour Series have again made Aberdeen one of only two Scottish stops, buoyed by the support of fans who line the streets to watch.
The revamped route will now start and finish on Broad Street on May 16.
The riders will then head up Schoolhill, along Back Wynd and Belmont Street before sprinting down Union Street.
City council co-leader Jenny Laing believes the route refresh will be a “perfect showcase for the wider transformation of the city”.
She said: “The OVO Energy Tour Series has really captured the imagination of the north-east public and there has been an amazing atmosphere at the two previous events.
“I’m looking forward to another fantastic day as the as the 2019 series arrives in Aberdeen.
“The tour series, which benefits from worldwide television coverage, brings all of those benefits and the new route we have announced today will ensure there’s a fresh feel.
“The old and new of the regenerated Broad Street, flanked by the historic Marischal College and award-winning Marischal Square, is a perfect showcase for the wider transformation of the city and it promises to be another wonderful occasion.”
There will be hospitality and an activity zone by the race start as well as further activity zone’s outside the St Nicholas centre and at the turn on to Union Street.
Mick Bennett, race director of the tour series’ organising company SweetSpot, said: “Our previous two events in Aberdeen have been a fantastic success and we are sure that the new circuit will prove popular with spectators and riders, while also showcasing the fantastic backdrop of Marischal College.
“The support of Aberdeen City Council and Scottish Cycling will again create an amazing atmosphere and give cyclist’s young and old the chance to try out the new circuit.”
Previous competitors include Olympic gold medallists Laura Kenny, Joanna Rowsell and Dani Rowe as well as junior World and European cyclo-cross champion Tom Pidcock.
Fellow Olympian champion Ed Clancy, who won the 2018 men’s race, added he would be “delighted to return” to Aberdeen after a “fantastic experience” last year.
