An Aberdeenshire mum battling cancer is hoping she can hit the right note with a new therapeutic singing group.
Esther Lloyd has organised monthly singing night Inner Vocals after she realised that belting out her favourite songs helped her deal with the stress of her cancer treatment.
The 33-year-old hopes the “semi-organised karaoke” sessions will help others relieve whatever stresses they are facing too.
The Cluny teacher was diagnosed with breast cancer just before Christmas and is halfway through a course of chemotherapy, and is facing an operation later this year.
Mrs Lloyd, who is married to Ben and has three-year-old daughter Harriett, said: “With my chemotherapy treatment, I felt really good shouting along to whatever music video that came on.
“I was just yelling along to the Greatest Showman, Annie Lennox or Abba – whatever shuffle threw at me.
“For me, it was a chance to switch off for a little while.
“Even organising this has brought its own relief because it’s a chance to escape the cancer bubble and channel my energy elsewhere.”
The first Inner Vocals night will be held upstairs in O’Neills in Back Wynd, Aberdeen tomorrow at 7.45pm.
The free events will then be held on the last Thursday of every month. It is open to everyone over the age of 18.
Mrs Lloyd added: “I put the idea out to people on Facebook and many seemed to like the idea – hopefully they’ll turn up.
“I want as many out-of-tune singers there as possible.
“It’s open to everyone, there’s absolutely no requirement for any talent.”
