The second ever Grampian Pride event has kicked off in Aberdeen, with thousands flocking to the streets to celebrate the region’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) community.
Last year’s event welcomed 3,000 people to the city centre, with today set to beat that record.
A parade began at Holburn Junction at 10.30am this morning, before working its way down Union Street.
Floats, drummers and performers were joined by both members and supporters of the LGBT community as they marched down Union Street.
Guy Ingerson, co-convener of Aberdeen Greens, said: “This event is so important, because it shows the colour and diversity of Aberdeen and our region, and serves as a reminder of all the people around the world who don’t have the same rights as we do.”
From 1pm onwards Grampian Pride will move to the Pride Village at Queen Links, with food and drink stalls, photo booths and children activities on offer all afternoon.
Performers at the Village include Rozalla, Booty Luv and Misty Twisty, amongst others.
The fun continued at Union Square this afternoon, where shoppers were treated to an afternoon of colourful fun to celebrate Grampian Pride.
Miss Romy wow’d shoppers with a bold and lively performance, with some of the crowd joining in themselves as part of the celebrations, taking pictures in a specially designed Pride booth.
Activities at the Pride Village will be followed by a Grampian Pride party at various venues across the city from 8pm, with an ABBA tribute headlining events at Codona’s.
