More than 330 new homes across Aberdeen were approved by the city council’s planning committee yesterday.
A 118 home scheme, comprising 72 flats and 46 houses, was approved unanimously for the site of the former fire station on Anderson Drive.
Councillors also approved the latest tranche of 216 homes on land to the south of Hazledene Road as part of the Pinewood Hazledene estate.
All the children at the new homes will attend Hazlehead Academy and one local councillor has now raised concerns that the school will struggle as the new pupils are predicted to push the academy over capacity.
Hazlehead, Queens Cross and Countesswells councillor Martin Greig said: “We are already struggling with school spaces and turning general purpose rooms into classrooms.
“We need a more joined up approach as the city expands.”
But committee vice- convener Jennifer Stewart said: “We can’t just refuse applications because people don’t like them, there needs to be genuine reason.
“There is a substantial need for the housing in this area.”
