An investigation has been launched after tonnes of rubbish caught fire at an Aberdeen recycling plant.
Fire crews were called to the Suez waste management centre in Bankhead industrial estate in Bucksburn.
The firm’s Sclattie Transfer Station contained approximately 200 tonnes of waste when the blaze broke out just before 8am.
Four fire engines were called to the warehouse and one man was treated with oxygen by crews.
An ambulance spokesman said: “We were called but weren’t required, and stood down at scene.”
Firefighters doused the burning rubbish down before leaving the scene by 12pm.
Yesterday afternoon a spokeswoman for Suez confirmed an investigation would be carried out.
She said: “Fire crews were called to Sclattie Transfer Station just before 8am this morning after reports of a small fire.
“Our health and safety procedures were implemented straight away to ensure that the fire was quickly extinguished, there were no injuries and no structural damage to buildings.
“The fire and rescue service were off site by noon, and normal operations resumed at 1pm.
“We extend our thanks and gratitude to the fire and rescue service and our team at Sclattie Transfer Station for their swift action.
“An investigation will now take place to determine the cause of fire.”
