A north-east MSP has been recording Doric poems and songs for a CD he plans to sell to raise money for a medical centre.
Peter Chapman wants to share his passion for the dialect while raising cash for Crimond Medical and Community Hub.
Having spoken Doric for years at functions, events, in competitions and even taking his affirmation at the Scottish Parliament in the Scots language, Mr Chapman feels very strongly that it’s important the community continues to speak it.
He said: “I’m a native Doric speaker, I think it is very important we keep it alive.
“It is part of our culture, it is part of our heritage and it is who we are in the north-east.
“There are a lot of really high quality poems in the Doric, that I have always said withstand comparison with anything written in the English language.
“There is such a huge volume of work, and most people in the north-east have not heard of them.
“This is an opportunity for people to hear some of these poems and the proceeds are going to a fantastic cause.”
Crimond Medical and Community Hub encompasses medical provisions and a range of services including a community cafe, pharmacy, fitness suite, post office services, a beauty salon and cancer support services.
The CD will be released in August and can be purchased from Symposium Coffee House located within the medical centre, Peterhead Prison Museum or by e-mailing info@crimondhub.co.uk
