Police posing “undercover” as cyclists stopped dozens of dangerous drivers during an operation in Aberdeen yesterday.
Officers spoke to 28 people as part of Operation Close Pass, a nationwide campaign telling drivers to leave plenty of room when overtaking people on bikes.
Several plainclothes officers took to Riverside Drive, beside Duthie Park, stopping any motorists who were driving too closely to people on bikes.
They were then told that they must leave at least five feet between them and cyclists when on the roads.
Sergeant Peter Henderson said: “Road safety is an absolute priority for the police and, as we approach summer, it is likely there will be an increase in vulnerable road users, such as cyclists.
“We will continue to carry out Operation Close Pass across Aberdeen and encourage anyone with concerns to report these to police on 101.
“It’s vital that we continue to proactively intervene to keep all road users safe and that all drivers recognise the importance of giving cyclists space.”
