A 40-year-old man has been banned from driving after being caught three times the drink-drive limit in Aberdeen city centre.
Gavin Steedman was disqualified from having a licence for four years at the city’s sheriff court yesterday.
He had pleaded guilty to the offence, after police found he had 69 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of his breath, when the legal limit is 22mcgs.
Officers stopped his white Peugeot Partner van in Market Street on March 23.
Steedman – whose address was given as Arns Grove in Alloa – was previously banned from driving.
He had been disqualified for two years in 2011.
Sheriff Graham Buchanan also imposed a £1,200 fine on Steedman.
The court was told the offence had to lead to a “large fine or unpaid work” – and he opted to pay the financial penalty.
The sheriff gave him the opportunity to reduce his ban by nine months if he can successfully complete a drink driving rehabilitation course satisfactorily.
Steedman’s defence agent, Peter Keene, said his client “would welcome” the opportunity to take part in the scheme.
