Beaver Scouts from Cults have raised nearly £750 towards improving cycling facilities in Scotland, after being inspired by a popular cycle path which runs right past their hut.
Members of the two 21st Aberdeen (Cults) Scout Group Beaver colonies took to two wheels with a sponsored cycle to raise the sum.
Some members, as young as six, learned how to ride a bike for the first time as part of the challenge.
As well as raising £750, they also earned their cyclist badges.
One of the leaders, Carl Gerrard, said: “The Beavers had recently been learning about the contribution of transport to climate change as part of their global issues badge.
“With the Deeside Way, which is part of Sustrans’ national cycle route, passing the Scout centre it made Sustrans an obvious choice of charity to support.”
Sustrans I-Bike coordinator, Phil Thornley, added: “I’d like to thank the 21st Aberdeen (Cults) Scout Group Beaver colonies for their very kind donation.
“With these monies, Sustrans Scotland can continue to make improvements to the National Cycle Network to improve access to walking, cycling and wheeling for all.”
