Police are appealing for information after vandals used a power saw to chop down a tree in Huntly.
The tree, which was next to the public car park at the Market Muir playing fields at George V Avenue, was cut down between 5pm on Monday and 9am on Tuesday.
It is thought that a power saw was used and the tree, which is estimated to have been there for at least 15 years, fell into the car park and onto a crash barrier.
PC Wayne Young said: “Felling a tree in a public place is unusual and carries with it huge risks to public safety.
“Thankfully no one was injured as a result of this incident, although there is an obvious environmental and community impact.
“Vandalism in any form is not acceptable so I am keen to trace the person or people responsible.”
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the police on 101 quoting reference 2361 of 11 June.
