A court has heard how a vulnerable north-east woman was “taken advantage of” by a drugs gang which stashed class B substances in her house.
Denise Gourdie was found storing cannabis resin at her Rosemount home after being manipulated by organised criminals.
The 58-year-old, who needs crutches to walk, had agreed to keep something at her property for a friend while she was on holiday, but said she had no knowledge of exactly what this item was meant to be.
Police found the illicit substances in June last year and Gourdie appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday having admitted her involvement in drug dealing.
Sheriff Graham Buchanan said: “I think you were foolish and taken advantage of, rather than that you’re a serious criminal.
“It’s well-known to everybody that drug gangs take advantage of people who are vulnerable.
“You’re clearly a vulnerable person, but you made yourself vulnerable to be exploited.”
He added: “It is a serious matter. You knew there was something dodgy about this.”
Gourdie, of Stevenson Court, was given two years’ social work supervision and was ordered to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work within nine months.
