Aberdeen council officers are to investigate ways of keeping vehicles off a scenic walking and biking path popular with tourists.
Lower Deeside councillor Marie Boulton put forward a motion to yesterday’s full council meeting that only emergency and refuse vehicles be allowed on the Deeside Way.
She said there had been complaints from residents about horse boxes and residents using vans to carry out work on neighbouring gardens and was looking for a clear position from the council.
Council officials will now investigate the feasibility of her request and bring a report back to a future meeting.
Mrs Boulton said: “This has been a long running issue and we are trying to give clarity to people in the local area.
“There have been complaints before about vehicles using the way, sometimes they are residents gaining access to their gardens.”
She added that residents would still be able to apply for access should a ban be brought in.
Airyhall, Broomhill and Garthdee councillor Ian Yuill said he had previously received reports of motorcycles using the path.
He said: “I think it’s key the Deeside Way is safe for everyone that uses it.
“There is rarely any need for vehicles to be on it unless owners are carrying out maintenance, there is an emergency or in the event it is the only access to their land.”
