A member of Aberdeen’s lifeboat team took the plunge in remarkable fashion when her partner disguised himself as a crewman and proposed during a drill.
Kirsty Noble was taking part in a training session at the city’s Fishmarket Quay, where she expected to find a fellow member of the local RNLI squad to be playing the part of a casualty complaining of chest pain.
Upon reaching the “casualty”, Miss Noble was stunned to discover that it was her boyfriend Sam Main.
Mr Main had kitted himself out in RNLI yellow and a safety helmet as part of the ruse, and wasted little time in getting down on one knee and asking Miss Noble to become his wife.
Her lifeboat colleagues, who were in on the act, were watching on and reacted with loud cheers and applause when she accepted the proposal.
The new bride-to-be, who is a website designer by profession, said: “Surprised is an understatement. It was an amazing occasion and to spend it with my best friends was very special.”
Mr Main added: “It was an amazing day and I’m delighted that she said yes.
“A lot of planning went into the day, so I’m so happy that it all went to plan.
“I’m really grateful to the whole RNLI team for all their help in making it possible.”

Lifeboat coxswain, Davie Orr, congratulated the couple on behalf of the crew.
He said: “Aberdeen’s volunteer lifeboat crew is a very close-knit team – we go through the highs and lows of search and rescue missions together.
“This was a special opportunity to share in the happiness of one of our own. We all wish Kirsty and Sam every happiness.”
Miss Noble is two years into her training and is a regular volunteer crew member on both Aberdeen’s all-weather and inshore lifeboats.
