A former FBI agent will visit the north-east this week for a set of talks about human trafficking.
In April, the P&J reported there had been dozens of cases of the crime happening in the region with 64 cases in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray have been detected by police since 2015.
Trafficking of people can take many forms, with some being forced into prostitution or sweatshops after being promised a brighter life in the UK.
Now the UnBound Houston charity will be in Banff, Elgin and Aberdeen this week to discuss how the issue affects communities on both sides of the Atlantic.
Key speakers will be Jessica Foran, a former FBI agent, and Kim Clark who currently works as a Special Investigator with DFPS (Department of Family Protective Services) in the US.
Christa Mayfield, assistant executive director of UnBound Houston, said: “We were connected through our church to the River Churches in Banff, Elgin and Aberdeen.
“They desire to be more involved in their community’s response to trafficking and invited us to come and share about our work and help them discover for themselves how they can best serve Aberdeenshire. “
