A former fire service base in Aberdeen could be transformed into flats and shops under ambitious new multi-million pound proposals.
Aberdeen-based West Coast Estates have revealed the £2.5million plans for the former fire service operations centre on Mounthooley Way- which they say will create up to 30 jobs.
The work, if given the go ahead, would involve altering and extending the existing office premises including change of use to create a “mixed use development”- with a shop at ground floor level and six flats above.
Some 17 car parking spaces as well as cycle spaces will also be delivered as part of the proposals.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have reduced their footprint in the city in recent years – with operations ceasing at Mounthooley in 2016.
A planning statement issued to the council from architects Aurora Planning reads: “The applicant now proposes to redevelop the former operations control office to form a small (353m2 ) retail unit on the ground floor with three flats on each of the two upper floors.
“The existing building will be retained with a modest 140m2 extension to the rear of the ground floor with the service yard adjacent to that.”
In May, proposals to build 118 homes on the site of a former North Anderson Drive fire station were given the go-ahead by the council’s planning committee.
Other parts of the site have been developed into a new training facility.
Iftikar Mian, director of West Coast Estates, said: “The site presents a fantastic opportunity to sympathetically breathe new life into the vacant site, one that will importantly benefit local residents and the surrounding community for years to come.
“I would also like to thank Old Aberdeen Community Council and the neighbouring community l and groups for there early feedback, a key element of which has seen the former Operations Control Office retained and enhanced to ensure it remains a key component of the proposals.’’
‘’Discussions are already underway with a variety of operators and we look forward to working with the local community and all those who have an interest in the proposals.’’
