A road was temporarily closed yesterday after a sewage pipe burst.
The burst occurred on a sewer main in Balgownie Road in Aberdeen’s Bridge of Don.
As a result a section of the road, between Ellon Road and Balgownie Crescent, had to be temporarily closed until damage to the road surface is repaired.
The burst pipe had caused the road surface to rise, and create a speedbump-like shape outside the Bridge of Don British Legion building.
A diversion was in place during the repair work.
A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “Following reports of a burst sewer main in Balgownie Road in Bridge of Don on Saturday evening, our local team attended to investigate and clean up.
“Due to damage to the road surface and footpath, it has been necessary to close a section of the road at its eastern end until a full repair can be completed.
“We would like to apologise to local residents and road users for the inconvenience caused by this temporary closure.”
Online, a number of drivers complained that the road’s risen surface meant they had damaged their cars.
Bradley Allan wrote on Facebook that the road was “absolutely stinking”.
He added: “Drove over it earlier and now my car is absolutely honking and that’s after giving it a good hose down.”
