A north-east volunteer has received a national honour for his efforts in raising money and awareness on behalf of diabetes sufferers.
Westhill man Dave Curry was presented with Diabetes Scotland’s Inspire Award for Supporting Diabetes at a ceremony in Glasgow.
As chairman of the organisation’s Aberdeen and District Group, Mr Curry organises meetings and events for people living with the condition to share their experiences.
He frequently speaks on behalf of the charity, and recently raised almost £800 by taking part in the Kiltwalk.
He said: “I am honoured to receive this award from my peers in the diabetes community.
“When I was first diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes 30 years ago, it was a big shock but I received lots of support which helped me.
“That’s why I want to help other people living with the condition.
“Many people in Scotland are living with diabetes, but I think the general public are still unaware of how serious it is.
“I wish more people knew about their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes so they could choose to take action to reduce the risk, like eating healthier and being more active.”
Diabetes Scotland director Angela Mitchell said: “Dave is an enormous support to us and the wider diabetes community.
“He recognises the immense value of peer support to people living with diabetes and goes to great lengths to deliver this in his community and beyond.
“Our volunteers are out there working hard in the community, day in and day out.
“Our much-needed work wouldn’t be possible without their incredible support and I extend my sincere thanks to all of our volunteers who make an enormous difference.”
