An Aberdeen MP has written to transport giants over a lack of a direct bus route from Lower Deeside to the city’s flagship hospital.
Aberdeen South Conservative Ross Thomson has contacted both Stagecoach and First Bus after complaints from constituents.
Elderly and infirm people in the area who have to travel to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary often face long journeys with numerous stops and have to change buses to get to the door.
Mr Thomson said: “I don’t think that it is too much to ask for people living in the west of Aberdeen to have a reliable, direct bus route to the city’s biggest hospital.
“I have been contacted by constituents across Lower Deeside who are frustrated at the lack of good public transport links.
“For older people, a long journey punctuated by stops and bus changes simply adds more stress to every hospital appointment.”
A Stagecoach spokeswoman said: “I can confirm we’ve received the letter and will discuss with Mr Thomson in due course.
“The A93 corridor at Peterculter is served by frequent bus services including services 201/202 to Aberdeen city centre.
“Customers can connect to a wide range of Stagecoach services to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary from Union Street, Bridge Street or Union Square Bus Station.”
A First Aberdeen spokesman said: “First Aberdeen constantly review our network based on customer and stakeholder feedback to ensure the efficiency and viability of our network.
“Based on current information and passenger demand, there are currently no plans to introduce a commercial service or direct link from Peterculter to ARI.
“Passengers across this general area can currently get the 19 or other services into the city centre and then change onto a connecting service to the hospital.”
