The sun is shining in the north of Scotland today – but the Met Office has warned thunderstorms are on their way.
It has issued a warning which comes into force at 6pm tonight and lasts until 9am tomorrow.
It reads: “Scattered thunderstorms moving north tonight and early Wednesday could lead to some power cuts and travel delays.”
Met Office forecaster Alex Deakin said: “Up from the south we are expecting big thundery showers to break out during the early hours of Wednesday morning. Dropping a lot of rain but also bringing rumbles of thunder, flashes of lightning.”
He said it’s going to be a very warm and humid night overnight. Temperatures will not drop below 15 degrees with some towns and cities staying in the high teens all night.
On Wednesday skies should start to brighten with a fair bit of cloud around but still warm and humid with temperatures rising by Thursday.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency has also issued warnings for flooding for the north and north-east.
