A man failed to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday because he was playing in a national bowls tournament.
Martin Rough was due in the dock after being charged with punching and headbutting a woman outside the Huntly and District Ex-Service Men’s Club on Sunday, May 5.
He did not appear but his solicitor, Liam McAllister, tendered a plea of guilty on his behalf.
And he said that the 29-year-old, of Torry Street, Huntly, was unable to appear at court in person.
Mr McAllister said: “He is playing in a national bowls final with his partner in Ayr.”
Sheriff Graeme Napier deferred sentence on Rough until next week, so that he can make a personal appearance.
