Aberdeen council chiefs have commissioned a new civic tartan for the city.
Designed and gifted to the local authority by Robert Duffy of Blairgowrie, the new plaid is comprised of a combination of black, red, yellow and blue.
The colours have been chosen to represent the City of Aberdeen as the European capital for the oil and gas industry, the granite the city is built from and council’s crest.
The cost of registering the tartan was £70, which came out of the civic budget.
When gifts are given to visitors it will now be of the Aberdeen City Council tartan – replacing the previous Aberdeen Forever tartan.
An Aberdeen City Council spokesperson said: “The council regularly gives small Scottish-themed civic gifts to visiting guests, such as tartan ties and scarves.
“Until recently, the council was using a locally-designed tartan for this purpose, but the rights to that tartan have now changed hands and we are no longer able to use it as we did previously.
“By owning the rights to the new tartan, Aberdeen City Council is now able to specify how it will be used for civic gifts.
