Emergency crews were sent to the aid of two people in trouble off Fraserburgh beach yesterday afternoon.
The alarm was raised with the coastguard just after 3.3opm by a concerned member of the public.
The town’s coastguard team and RNLI lifeboat crew were sent to the beach.
But the two had managed to make it back to shore before they arrived.
A coastguard spokesman said it was not clear if the pair, who were seen “struggling in the water” had escaped by themselves or whether bystanders had come to their aid.
The casualties were looked over by ambulance staff.
After a number of incidents on the north-east shoreline this week, as people enjoyed the record-breaking heat, the coastguard has issued a warning.
The spokesman added: “People should enjoy our coast and the water but please be safe.
“You need to look after your family and friends, make sure they stay within sight at all times and, when in the sea, beware of the currents that may affect you.”
