A north-east farmer ended up in hospital after drinking a bottle of strimmer oil he mistook for juice.
Thirsty from the heat while he milked cows near Udny last Saturday, Christopher Leigh took “massive swigs” of the liquid he found in the back of his Jeep.
The 57-year-old immediately rang NHS 24 before making his way to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The dad-of-two spent two hours in A&E and a further four in observation before he was given the all-clear to return home.
He said the incident felt him feeling like “an idiot”.
“It was such a hot day that I was desperate for anything but I should have checked what was in the bottle first,” he added.
“I didn’t think twice, I just opened it up and took two massive swigs.
“I knew I’d made a big mistake as soon as I tasted it.”
Mr Leigh’s daughter, Siobhain, said: “We can make a joke of it now but it has made us think twice.
“If anything it has raised awareness, especially if young children were to get their hands on a bottle.”
