A “gull menace” is still plaguing a leafy Aberdeen community- and a local councillor is urging residents to stop feeding the birds.
There has long been concern about the gulls in the Seafield Crescent and Viewfield Avenue areas of the city.
Homeowners say there is a “constant” problem with about 15 to 20 “permanent” birds setting up home.
And the issue came to a head earlier this year when frustrated locals convened a public meeting to discuss the problem at Craigebuckler church.
Last night, amidst claims the problem is as bad as ever, Hazlehead, Queens Cross and Countesswells councillor Martin Greig said the only way to deter the gulls was to stop feeding them.
He also urged locals to secure their bins and deprive the birds of access to foodstuffs within.
Concerns have been raised that residents may be putting out food in a misguided attempt at kindness.
Mr Greig said: “The gull menace can only be stopped by removing their food supply.
“This means residents have to stop feeding them. Food refuse also needs to be carefully enclosed so the birds can’t get at it.
“Individuals need to take on more of the responsibility to protect the community from this enormous nuisance.”
