A major search operation was launched this afternoon after Coastguard teams received a “man overboard” distress signal.
An alert beacon off the coast of Fraserburgh was triggered at 3pm this afternoon.
RNLI Lifeboats from Fraserburgh, Banff and Macduff, and Coastguard Rescue Teams from Fraserburgh, Banff and Peterhead, have been sent to the area to find the person.
The Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Inverness has also been sent to the scene.
A Coastguard spokeswoman said: “Mayday relay broadcasts are also being made to other vessels in the area asking to assist in keeping a sharp lookout and to contact Aberdeen Coastguard if they have any information.”
The search was stood down at around 6pm.
