A national festival celebrating Scotland’s national drink will take place in Aberdeen for the first time next month.
The National Whisky Festival of Scotland will be held in the recently reopened Music Hall on September 14.
The event has previously been held in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Paisley, but next month will mark the first occasion it has been brought to the Granite City.
Among the more than 30 distillers who will be showing off their drams include the Thurs-based Wolfburn, the UK’s most northerly mainland distillers, in addition to many more well-known and smaller whisky-makers from across Scotland.
Stacey Walton, a co-organiser of the festival, said she was excited to bring the event to her hometown of Aberdeen.
She said: “I haven’t been back for Aberdeen for a wee while, so taking the festival to Aberdeen is really exciting for me personally.
“Aberdeen has more and more amazing events going on these days, but there’s nothing really like what we’re able to offer.
“There has really been a huge change in the culture of Aberdeen that’s been exciting recently, and with the grand reopening of the Music Hall we got this feeling that now is the time to finally take it to the Granite City.

“We’re really keen to take the event out of the central belt and, for us, Aberdeen really seemed like the perfect opportunity.”
Ms Walton added that although the festival will feature some of Scotland’s finest drams, the event will have something for everyone, from amateur whisky drinkers to even the most hardened aficionados.
She said: “We’re taking over the whole Music Hall, and really taking advantage of the new and improved space.
“As well as drinks and tasting sessions, there will be an incredible bill of live music, whisky-related art, woodwork, photography and more.
“We really want to widen our festival so it’s not just an exclusive event for experts, we want everyone to be able to come and enjoy themselves on the day and really celebrate everything that whisky is about.”
