An Aberdeen roofing company has pled guilty to safety failings after one of its employees fell from a ladder and died.
Joseph Kane, who worked for Henderson and Aitken Limited, was doing work on a property on the city’s Jute Street on September 21, 2016.
Yesterday, a solicitor for the company appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court to tender a guilty plea to a contravention of work at height regulations.
The company admitted failing to ensure scaffolding had been erected by a competent person, that the scaffolding had been put up safely with sufficient protection on the working platform to prevent someone from falling and that there was a safe means of access to and from the working platform on the scaffold.
The charge stated that by failing in those responsibilities they exposed employees to “the risk of injury or death”.
Mr Kane fell from a ladder providing access to and from the working platform on the scaffolding.
His injuries were so severe he later died.
Sentence was deferred until next month.
