Police divers scoured the waters of Peterhead Harbour using sonar equipment as the search for a missing local man continues.
Aivars Kajaks has not been seen for more than three weeks and the specialist team were yesterday tasked to search the area.
The 44-year-old was reported missing by his family who said they had not heard from him for some time.
Police in the town have carried out extensive CCTV work, house-to-house inquiries and a large number of address checks since he was last seen.
Following searches in Broad Place, the town centre and areas of the coastline, the police dive and marine unit will be carrying out searches of the harbour for the rest of the week.
Starting their branch of the operation yesterday, the team were seen on their large dinghy using specialised sonar equipment to assess the water.
Peterhead Inspector George Cordiner said: “From our inquiries so far and from speaking to members of Aivars family and friends, we have been attempting to build a picture of his life in the weeks leading up to, and at the time of his disappearance.
“We still need to keep an open mind in relation to what has happened to him and I urge anyone with information to get in touch as soon as possible. It is not too late.”
Mr Kajaks is around 5ft 6in, has short brown hair, brown eyes and was last seen wearing a jacket and blue jeans.
He is known to work odd jobs, staying with friends on a short-term basis and is also known to regularly visit the town centre area.
In the last few weeks officers have issued three missing person posters in the hunt for Mr Kajaks and continued to ask the public to come forward with any information.
One is in English, another translated into Mr Kajaks’ native Latvian and another in Russian as he is believed to have numerous friends and acquaintances who speak these languages.
It is hoped that by sharing these someone may recognise him.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
