Repairs to Aberdeen’s Beach Leisure Centre will begin next year in response to concerns raised by its operators.
In Sport Aberdeen’s annual report last month the centre, which opened in 1992, was said to be facing challenges and the document revealed there have already been “plant failings”.
The charity – which is an arms-length organisation that runs most of the city’s sport and leisure facilities – revealed talks were ongoing to tackle some of the problems.
A spokeswoman said at the time: “Even short-term solutions…would require additional investment.”
Now it has emerged that works on the building’s atrium roof and replacing the air handling unit over the flume tower have been approved.
They should take place during the next financial year, though they have yet to be fully costed.
And last night council co-leader Douglas Lumsden said the authority would be carrying out further inspections to see if any more repairs are required.
Another concern raised by Sport Aberdeen in their report was the Get Active at Lochside facility- and it is also in line for a cash injection.
Mr Lumsden said: “We are going to look into what repairs are needed and come back with a full report to look at the costs.
“This work would show our commitment to the people of Aberdeen by maintaining our buildings and facilities to a high standard.”
