One of the most senior stargazers in the country will stage a talk at Aberdeen Planetarium.
The event, aimed at enthusiasts and astronomers in the area, will be led by Royal Astronomer, Professor John C Brown OBE.
It will take place on Monday, December 2, at the attraction in the North East Scotland College campus in the city centre.
His presentation Oor Big Braw Cosmos will explore the beauty of the universe and its workings – with reference to science, history, poetry and photographic and art images.
Those in attendance will visit the Planetarium to see the night sky and then enjoy a trip around the galaxy with Dr Aakash Welgamage-Don.
From there they will go to the college’s restaurant Gate 63 where a two course buffet will be on offer. Professor Brown will then give a “lively” presentation.
Professor Brown was appointed by the Queen as the 10th Astronomer Royal for Scotland in 1995 but the post dates back to 1834.
He has been involved with several of the new Planetariums recently opened in the UK and is an honourary professor at the University of Edinburgh and Aberdeen University.
The event kicks off at 6pm but guests have been asked to arrive 15 minutes early at the Gallowgate Entrance.
The much loved facility was closed for a decade and only reopened earlier this summer following high demand from members of the public.
