A spurned north-east man has been jailed after assaulting his cousin and love rival in a dispute over plastic surgery bills.
Gareth Deeming attacked Robert Campbell in a hair salon in Peterhead’s Queen Street on June 29.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard yesterday that the relatives fell out over a woman who left Deeming for Mr Campbell.
Solicitor Iain Hingston said Deeming had given the woman thousands of pounds for cosmetic surgery, understanding it to be “an investment in their future”.
But soon after, she “went cold” on him and when she left her husband it was for Deeming’s cousin.
In November last year Deeming was jailed for 20 months after admitting a string of charges, including behaving threateningly towards the pair.
But two weeks after his release, the former worker at the St Fergus gas plant punched his cousin 10 times in the face and fractured his eye socket, fiscal depute Katy Begg said.
The 29-year-old, who appeared on remand from HMP Grampian, then pulled him to the ground, shouting “where’s my money?”.
Mr Hingston said his client had written-off the £4,000 he had given the woman for the surgery, which was nearly his entire life savings, but had been incensed by the pair posting on social media.
He added: “He was going about his own buisness when he saw them.
“The behaviour is out of character, although the court will not sympathise.”
Sheriff Andrew Miller jailed Deeming to for 15 months for the assault and for threatening and abusive behaviour towards his former partner.
