A group of north-east golfers are preparing to tee off at a competition in Portugal, after raising an impressive £13,000 for a cancer support charity.
The Tee Birds team of four ladies took part in this year’s Longest Day Golf Challenge in aid of Macmillan, a charity that offers assistance to cancer patients and their families.
In June, the women completed 72 holes in one day at Peterculter Golf Club, starting at 4am and finishing their challenge at around 10pm, covering 24 miles of fairway.
And, because of the huge amount of cash raised, Lynn Nicol, Sarah Gordon, Loraine Richards and Lesley Nicol will fly to Portugal next month to compete in a grand final competition against other top Macmillan fundraisers from across the country.
Lynn Nicol said: “We just can’t believe we’ve managed to raise so much, and we were shocked to find out we’ll actually be going to play in the finals – it is so exciting.”
