Across the country there is concern for the potential of homes and businesses flooding too.
Forecasters also warn that power supplies and other services could be knocked out by the wet weather.
The Met Office expects the worst of the rain will be between the early hours of Sunday morning and 6pm.
A spokesman said: “Within the warning area many parts will see 15-30 mm (up to an inch) of rain during Sunday with the potential for as much as 40-50 mm (up to two inches) in places, much of this falling in a six-hour period.
“At this stage, there is still some uncertainty regarding the location of where the heaviest rain will occur.”
