A north-east primary school has celebrated receiving its third eco-flag at its annual harvest festival assembly.
Parents were invited to see pupils at Monquhitter Primary School raise the flag, which recognises the youngsters’ work to become more green.
Parent helper Heather Rawles said: “I’m really proud of the pupils and all the hard work they put in over the past few years. It has, of course, been a full school effort and not just the work of the eco-group.
“Achieving the eco-flag has made pupils more environmentally aware by making them more conscious of recycling and all the small things they can do that will have a big impact.”
She said that as well as helping the environment, the initiative helps shy pupils develop confidence by getting involved in a wider project.
During the two year initiative, the group worked to boost both its strengths and weaknesses, while also picking certain areas to focus on such as litter, health and well-being and global citizenship.
To do that, the pupils created litter-picking and recycling rotas and grew and sold their own vegetables, and even planted trees.
Next week, the school will host its French cafe for primary six parents at 11am.
