Coastguard teams rescued Billy the small chihuahua/yorkie cross after falling 25 meters over a cliff edge.
Coastguard teams yesterday rushed to the aid of a mischievous dog who fell more than 25 meters over a cliff edge.
Owners of the small chihuahua/yorkie cross, called Billy, alerted coastguards when he tumbled from a window at Slains Castle.
Coastguard rope rescue teams from Cruden Bay and Peterhead, as well as Peterhead Lifeboat, delivered Billy safely back to his owners.
A spokesman for HM Coastguard said: “Your dog can’t read and relies on you to keep them safe. No matter how well trained, the clifftop risks can still catch them out.
“Please keep you precious family pet on a lead and away from the edge.
“If, like Billy, they still manage to evade you and have a big adventure, then remember, don’t try to rescue them yourself, dial 999.”
A backup rope rescue unit from Banff was also made aware of the incident.
In recent months, visitors to Slains Castle have been urged not to underestimate the dangers posed by the beauty spot and the sheer cliffs on which the ruin stands.
There have been a number of incidents involving dogs at the popular site and politicians, councillors and the emergency services have all urged visitors to take care.
