A charity which helps poorly children across the north-east is appealing for people to join a team of fundraisers crossing the Great Wall of China.

The Archie Foundation is preparing for its second such trek, after well-wishers raised more than £35,000 for the organisation by walking across the massive attraction last year.

Participants will join the expedition on May 8 and all of the money they raise will go towards local children who are unwell.

Fundraising officer for the Archie Foundation, Emily Findlay, said: “Almost everyone in the north-east knows a child that has been cared for in the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital. Every child that walks through the door is helped by Archie in some way.”

Amanda Aitken, from Aberdeen, was part of last year’s group and last night urged others to grasp the opportunity to take part.

She said: “The trip last year was amazing, having a group all there for the same charity was great.

“The walking was challenging in parts but the amazing views and scenery around more than made it worthwhile.”

The charity provides assistance for children through emergency funding, travel and accommodation.

It also helps fund specialist staff, training, and equipment along with tailor-made or sensory toys for disabled children.
