New figures show that the chief executive of Aberdeen City Council has cut back on her use of taxpayers’ money for overnight stays in local hotels.
Last year, the P&J revealed that Angela Scott, who lives in Dundee, had used more than £7,500 of public cash to pay for almost 100 nights at hotels in the Granite City over four years.
It included 31 nights between July 2014 and July 2015, a further 23 nights the following year, 18 between 2016 and 2017, and 23 overnight stays between 2017 and 2018.
The controversy led to councillors ordering a review of the local authority’s travel and accommodation policy, which stated that “local hotel accommodation may be booked in exceptional circumstances”.
However, new figures have now revealed that the chief executive reduced her stays to just seven nights at two Premier Inn hotels in Aberdeen between July 2018 and July 2019, costing a total of £481, including meals.
Last night, a council spokesman said: “As with every year, all expenses incurred relate to operational requirements and comply with council policy.”
