A kite-surfer who was the subject of a major search and rescue effort yesterday has been traced safe and well.
Police, RNLI and coastguard teams were dispatched in rough conditions on Saturday afternoon after a member of the public called the emergency services with concerns for the safety of a kite-surfer.
An extensive operation was carried out for several hours, including the assistance of a rescue helicopter, but at around 6.45pm the kite-surfer’s sail had been recovered and the owner was seen coming to shore safely.
Following an appeal yesterday, the man has been traced and confirmed by police to be safe and well.
Grant Bruce, the helm of the Aberdeen inshore lifeboat, said following the incident: “Conditions on today’s service were very challenging.
“There was a strong breeze across a two to three metre (6.5ft to 9.8ft) swell, further confused by backwash from the sea-wall and strong under-tows.
“Trying to search for a person in the water in such conditions is unquestionably difficult.”
