A north-east town hall will be lit up this week to mark World Polio Day.
Oldmeldrum Rotary Club will be illuminating the town’s hall purple on Thursday.
The club’s Sheena Clarke recently returned from a trip to India to help with the vaccination programme.
The colour reflects the fact that those vaccinated against polio have their little finger dipped in purple dye to indicate they have received the vaccination.
World Polio Day will be marked globally to generate awareness towards the eradication of polio, as well as to commemorate the efforts of thousands of WHO staff and volunteers committed to eradicating polio.
A “switching on’” ceremony will take place at 6pm, featuring children from Tarves, Cultercullen and Methlick schools, who together with pupils from Meldrum Academy have raised money for the End Polio Now campaign.
