A vital north-east bridge has reopened weeks after it was badly damaged by flash flooding.
Aberdeenshire Council has completed the installation of a new rural bridge on the B9105 Fraserburgh to Turriff road at South Mains after just three weeks of construction.
The bridge’s repair was given the highest priority by council bosses due to the impact its loss would have on local communities.
The floods that swept through the north-east last month left a further six bridges either damaged or washed away with residents facing detours as a result.
Head of roads, Philip McKay, said: “On behalf of Aberdeenshire Council I would like to thank everyone who has worked tirelessly to get this bridge rebuilt and reopened to traffic within an incredibly tight schedule.
“We fully appreciate the impact the bridge and road closures have had on our rural communities, so to see the South Mains route back in action is great news for residents and businesses alike.”
A spell of good weather enabled the Roads Service to complete the laying of base layers on Thursday, with the final asphalt surface course being laid yesterday.
This repairs followsfrom the earlier completion of repair works at Auchmill Bridge, just off the A947 near King Edward, which was closed after sustaining damage from what appeared to be a crash.
Banff, Macduff, Turriff and the surrounding villages were among those worst hit by flash flooding last month, with several rural routes still in need of repair.
