The event, which has been hailed as the biggest bonfire and fireworks event which the town has ever experienced, took place in Gordon Park. The Ellon and District Round Table organised the bash and members yesterday said they appear to be on course to eclipse last year’s total of £2,000. George Stewart said: “Weeks of planning and days of hard graft come together, and it is all worth it for the event to be such a success. “We are still tallying up how much was raised but we are confident that this year’s donations have broken all previous records.” The cash amassed will be ploughed back into the community, with local charities benefiting. Revellers enjoyed funfair rides, and stalls were set up offering mulled wine and cider during the evening. The Round Table members are not yet done for the year, with more activities lined up for the festive period. They will be selling Christmas trees, which will be on sale at a number of events including at the Ellon Christmas lights switch-on.
