A new book exploring the history of one of the north-east’s most popular hills and its surrounding community will be launched this month.
The new publication, titled “Bennachie and Garioch: Society and ecology in the north-east of Scotland”, will explore all manner of subjects relating to the hill, from what fruits were grown on it to 19th century colonists in the region, and the true meaning of the carvings on the Mither Tap peak.
It is the fourth volume from a joint history project organised by the Bailies of Bennachie group and Aberdeen University, which has been running since 2010.
A launch event for the book will be held at the Garioch Heritage Centre on November 21 at 7pm.
Fiona Cormack, from the Bailies group, said: “Chapters range from geology, to archaeology, history to gardening and a survey of the moth population.”
