A north-east man has written a book filled with political poems inspired by all sorts of “outrageous” social media posts.
Ian Cheyne – or Will B Justice – has written a book called Br**it Balloons, 99 Reasons in Rhyme which he hopes “provides a light-hearted poetic view of Brexit.”
Mr Cheyne, from Fraserburgh, who is currently studying a creative writing masters at the Open University said: “There’s that well known saying when life gives you lemons, make lemonade and the EU referendum has been one of life’s biggest lemons.”
He said he was inspired to write the book after a conversation with an acquaintance about parliamentary elections and the 2016 EU referendum.
Not long afterwards, he came across some comments made by voters online – which sparked his imagination. They
Mr Cheyne said: “It should be an obligation on all who vote to do so responsibly, and be properly informed before casting their vote.
“There were some really outrageous comments on why people voted to either leave or remain. For example, one comment I came across said the EU decided Marathon bars would be called Snickers and that influenced what they voted for.”
“Each comment has been treated according to its own merits. Some are serious, with varying degrees of innuendo and subtlety. Others are just plain silly, while a few are quietly pensive.”
The book is now available at Dyga’s newsagents in Fraserburgh and at Aden Country Park. Mr Cheyne soon hopes to launch a website where people will be able to purchase a copy of his book.
