A caravan park which was destroyed in a devastating flood has won a national award after reopening following a revamp.
Deeside Holiday Park, at Maryculter, was a high-profile victim of Storm Frank when it swept through the region at the end of 2015.
It was forced to close for two years as owners faced a £3 million repair bill to restore the site, which was left submerged by about 20ft of water after the River Dee burst its banks.
Since then, the team at the site have worked to return the park to its former glory, and now their efforts have been recognised at the Scottish Outdoor Leisure Awards – where it was named “best holiday park”.
Sales and marketing director, Sarah Wood MacGregor, said: “For Deeside to win such a prestigious category, against some very tough competition, is incredible.”
The Deeside Holiday Park was flooded twice during Storm Frank, with its main building damaged and caravans and motor homes left in ruins or washed away.
Wood Leisure has owned the park for more than 10 years, and built new accommodation and facilities since the flood damage.
The firm received nominations for all six of its Scottish holiday parks across a number of categories, but faced very stiff competition across the board.
Deeside’s sister park, Campsie Glen Holiday Park in Stirlingshire, also had success on the night, winning a prize for the best value of accommodation.
Ms Wood MacGregor added: “We are absolutely delighted to win in two very competitive categories. Thank you to all our customers and owners who have supported us over the years and voted for us.”
