VIDEO: Sneak preview of the newly renovated Barclay Park pavilion in Peterhead

An outdated Peterhead park pavilion long left unused has been given a new lease of life.

Peterhead Area Community trust, known as Pact, has spent the last 18 months planning and fundraising for the revamp of the Barclay Park Community Pavilion.

Now the building has a new entrance ramp, a spacious community area with Wifi throughout, as well as a wall mounted television and a renovated kitchen area.

Accessed from the foyer area, meanwhile, are large home and away changing rooms with showers as well as two fully accessible changing rooms with toilets and showers.

Chairwoman Dianne Beagrie is delighted the facility is now available for public hire.

She said: “This is a very exciting time for Pact. We’re a determined and passionate team and have delivered this project after only being formed for 18 months.

“This is our first community project and we look forward to the public using our facility and supporting us in phase two of the development of Victoria Bowling area.

“On Wednesday we welcome our first hire, Peterdeen, who will be using the facility on a daily basis during term time.”

The pavilion was funded mainly through Aberdeenshire Council developer obligations and Peterhead Regeneration Vision and Action Plan funds.

Vice-chairman Graeme Mackie added: “We are absolutely delighted to see this previously unused and very dated pavilion totally transformed for the local community

“I am sure all groups will be proud to use it.

“It was a very challenging and ambitious first project for PACT and, for me personally, very time consuming.

“But is was certainly well worth it to achieve this so quickly.

“This is exactly what PACT was formed to do – to rejuvenate and enhance local community facilities.”

A Pact website with the Barclay Park Community Pavilion online booking system and bookings for the pitch will also available from the November 20.

The rest of the team, Gavin Mundie, Alan Fakley, Keith Skinner, Phil Rennie and Andrew Bruce, are also looking forward to the public open day which will be held to show off the facility on December 14, from noon.

At the event, Pact will also discuss their plans for Victoria Road.
