Hundreds of people are expected to visit Aberdeen city centre for the switching-on of this year’s Christmas lights.
The Norwegian Fir tree, which is a gift every year from Aberdeen’s twin city of Stavanger, arrived in the city’s harbour last week and has subsequently been erected in the Castlegate by Aberdeen City Council.
The switching-on ceremony, which gets under way at 7pm tomorrow, will be carried out by the Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Barney Crockett and the deputy mayor of Stavanger, Bjørg Tysdel Moe, who together with Reverend James Garnett of Aberdeen Methodist Church will bless the tree.
Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Aberdeen choir Tutti Voices and Gospelkoret Abraham, a choral group from Stavanger, who will join forces to sing Christmas carols for the crowds.
Mr Crockett said: “It is a special occasion on the Christmas events calendar and allows us to recognise the successful partnerships between organisations in Aberdeen and Stavanger that have been cultivated over the years.”
Meanwhile, city charity Archway, which supports local people with learning disabilities, is getting into the Christmas spirit early with two festive events.
Tomorrow, they are hosting a families and friends shopping evening from 5pm to 8pm at its charity shop at 95 Rosemount Place.
And, on Saturday morning, they are holding a family-friendly Christmas fair from 10am to 12pm at Dyce Church Hall on Victoria Street.
