Residents of Aberdeen watched in horror as the choppy waters washed up an array of plastic washed up onto the beach.
Onlookers at the city beach described their concern after witnessing the waste wash up on the shore tangled in seaweed.
Gail Dicksman said it would be a “race against time” to clear the plastic before the tide took it back out to sea and further polluted the ocean.
Concerned about climate change and the volume of waste in the sea, she said she “hoped” it would be cleared before this happened.
Hundreds of volunteers around the country have been taking part in beach cleans to eradicate the sands, and waters, from harmful plastic, netting and other debris.
